P5/6 Reading VIPERS

In P5/6 we are reading The Secret of Platform 13 by Eva Ibbotson. We are very engaged in this fantasy book so far with its mystical creatures and the mystery of a kidnapping. To delve deeper into the text, we are using the Literacy Shed’s concept of Reading VIPERS. It stands for Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explain, Retrieve and Summary. The questions we consider through each chapter relate to each of these reading strategies. We have discussed foreshadowing, our predictions, how the author builds suspense, and the meaning of key vocabulary words in the context they are used.
